FICS Summer School 15-17 Aug 2012 at Jyväskylä

The official get-together and the main yearly event of FICS, the Summer School, is held on 15-17 August in conjunction with the Jyväskylä Summer School.
Location: Mattilanniemi Campus of the University of Jyväskylä. See here for instructions on how to get to Jyväskylä.

Please register here for FICS summer school activities. Deadline 5 August (students and those staying overnight) or August 12 (supervisors who do not need accommodation)

The FICS summer school will include
- Training on how to give a scientific presentation by Minna Haapsaari
- Training on writing scientific publications in English by Dr. Pekka Belt, University of Oulu
- Poster session in which all FICS students will present their work, some with 3-minute highlight presentations. Everybody is asked to participate!
- A guest lecture "Recent advances in Markov chain Monte Carlo" by Dr. Matti Vihola from Univ.Jyväskylä
- Social evening programme

Wednesday 15 August at Agora Building
13:00 Registration opens, come and get your lunch tickets!
13:15 Lunch at Piato restaurant at Agora building
14:00 Presentation training, one of two alternative groups, by Minna Haapsaari. Location: Ag Auditorio 2. Those not participating in this group are encouraged to follow some Jyväskylä Summer School courses. Coffee break at 15:30 and other small breaks included.
17:45 Possibility to check in at hotel Alba
18:00 Social programme: sauna event at Majakoski house, bus transport leaves from hotel Alba
21:30 Bus transport leaves from Majakoski to hotel Alba

Thursday 16 August at Agora Building
09:00 Presentation training, one of two alternative groups, by Minna Haapsaari. Location: Ag Auditorio 2. Those not participating in this group are encouraged to follow some Jyväskylä Summer School courses. Coffee break at 10:30 and other small breaks included.

13:00 Supervisors: Discussion lunch for supervisors at Piato restaurant at Agora building (Pls get your lunch ticket beforehand from Ella)

A separate registration to jss@jyu.fi is required for all of these courses. First come, first served. When registering, please inform that you are a FICS student, and whether you plan to listen to the course or also complete the course and get credit points.

PRACTICALITIES OF FICS SUMMER SCHOOL

All FICS students and supervisors are encouraged to participate, free of charge! Accommodation is provided for all students and a restricted number of supervisors; if we run out of rooms then those living outside Jyväskylä region are given preference. Travel expenses (except for daily allowances) for students and supervisors living outside Jyväskylä are covered, please make a travel claim to your own department and the department can then charge FICS upon agreement with Ella Bingham.
